National Consultation on Good Governance Index meeting held on 4 May under Secretary, DARPG chairmanship
Government of India had constituted a Group of Secretaries on Governance to assess various dimensions of Governance, ways to strengthen systems, foster innovations at the cutting edge administrative units (Districts) and find ways of enhancing the capacities of the Government machinery in achieving citizen centric governance. After elaborate deliberations, the GoS has recommended developing a comprehensive index of Good Governance so as to measure the performance of the States/UTs. Accordingly, the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) has initiated the process and identified the Centre for Good Governance (CGG), Hyderabad as the consulting agency to carry out the work.
The Centre for Good Governance (CGG) has developed a preliminary methodology and identified a set of measurable indicators of Good Governance. To strengthen the methodology and make the Good Governance Index more comprehensive, a consultative meeting was held on 4 May, 2017 at Centre for Good Governance (CGG), Gachibowli campus, Hyderabad. Experts and Secretaries from 5 states participated in the consultation meeting chaired by the Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), GoI. The Additional Secretary to Govt., DARGP, GoI also participated in the day-long deliberations which also had active participation from various state governments and Governance specialists.
