Dr. P.K.Mohanty, IAS (Retd.)

Former Chief Secretary to Government of Andhra Pradesh

Dr. P.K. Mohanty worked as the Director General of CGG during April 2002 to August 2006.

A member of the Indian Administrative Service, Dr. Mohanty is a specialist in political economy, economics, public policy and urban management. He holds Doctorate in Economics from Boston University, USA and a double MA from Delhi School of Economics and Boston University. He has also been Rockefeller Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard University. Dr. Mohanty has held several key positions in the Government of India and Government of Andhra Pradesh. He was elevated to Secretary to Government of India before he took over as Chief Secretary to Government of Andhra Pradesh from which post he retired in June, 2014.

He has held the positions of Mission Director, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) – for 7 years; Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad; Collector & District Magistrate, Guntur; Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Visakhapatnam, Secretary to Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and Urban Development and Policy Specialist for the Asian Development Bank. He also worked as Chief Commissioner, Land Administration, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Currently Dr. Mohanty is acting as the Executive Chair for programmes in Centre for Good Governance and National Institute of Urban Management, Hyderabad.

Dr. Mohanty specializes in Urban Development and Good Governance, areas in which he has published books and a number of research papers, and received awards, notably for contribution to administrative reforms and e-governance. He has co-edited the Sage Publication (2014): Urbanisation in India: Challenges, Opportunities and the Way Forward. He has also led the Reserve Bank of India publication (2007): Municipal Finance in India – An Assessment and authored the Sage Publication (2014): Cities and Public Policy: An Urban Agenda for India.
